Artisans Protest Proposed Ejection from Suame Magazine Zone1

Hundreds of artisans operating at Suame Magazine’s Zone 13 in Kumasi have staged a peaceful protest against what they describe as an unlawful and forceful eviction from their long-standing workspace.

The protest included mechanics, welders, electricians, and sprayers, who marched through the enclave waving placards and chanting slogans to express their frustration.

The eviction notice reportedly stems from a court ruling favoring a private developer who claims ownership of the land through the Lands Commission.

However, the artisans argue that the land is protected under Executive Instrument 36, which they say grants them legitimate rights to operate there.

One protester stated, “This land is covered by an Executive Instrument. If they want to evict us, they must amend it in Parliament.

Otherwise, our livelihoods are under siege.”

With over 15,000 artisans potentially affected, the situation has sparked widespread concern about job losses and economic disruption in the region.

The artisans are calling on government authorities to intervene and uphold their rights to continue working on the land they’ve occupied for decades.
