MY CANDIDACY NEVER CONTRIBUTED TO OUR LOST IN THE BAWKU ENCLAVE-DR BAWUMIA

The Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer in the 2024 elections Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has firmly rejected claims that his candidacy contributed to the party’s poor performance in the Bawku enclave during the 2024 general elections.

Speaking to party supporters in Asante Mampong, Dr. Bawumia addressed criticisms linking the NPP’s electoral losses in the Bawku zone to his ethnic background and political role.

He emphasized that the region has historically leaned towards the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), and that the party’s struggles there predate his rise to national prominence.

Dr. Bawumia,
“They claim we lost the 2024 elections because of the Mamprusi-Kusasi conflict. Those claims will not wash. I was not even born when the conflict started. Since 1965, the NPP has won only two seats in the Bawku zone. Was I the cause? I can’t be blamed for our poor performance in the Bawku enclave.”

The Bawku enclave, comprising six constituencies, remains a stronghold of the NDC. Dr. Bawumia urged party members not to be discouraged, calling for renewed grassroots mobilization to shift the political tide.

A bold defense from the NPP’s presidential hopeful, as the party gears up for the 2026 primaries. Stay with us for more political updates.
