Mortality Rate Rising in Sekyere South: Health Director Calls for Urgent Suppor

Agona, Ashanti Region – The Sekyere South Municipal Health Directorate Mr Daniel Yeboah has raised alarm over a disturbing rise in mortality rates within the municipality, citing an acute shortage of medical officers and essential equipment as key drivers of the crisis.

Municipal Health Director, speaking at Annual Health Performance Review in Agona, bemoaned the dire situation, stressing that the health system is overstretched and under-resourced.

“We are witnessing an ascendency in mortality rates, and without immediate intervention, the situation could worsen.

The municipality urgently needs more medical officers, modern equipment, and logistical support to save lives,” he stated.

According to health officials, the municipality’s hospitals and clinics are struggling to cope with increasing patient numbers, with limited staff forced to work long hours under challenging conditions.

Basic diagnostic tools, beds, and emergency equipment remain inadequate, further compounding the problem.

Community leaders and residents have echoed the call, urging government and development partners to prioritise investment in healthcare delivery in Sekyere South. “Our people deserve access to quality healthcare.

The lack of doctors and equipment is costing lives,” one resident lamented.

The Health Directorate has appealed for immediate deployment of medical personnel, provision of ambulances, and expansion of health facilities to stem the rising tide of preventable deaths.

As mortality rates continue to climb, the urgency of the situation underscores the need for swift and coordinated action to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the municipality’s population.
