Farmers in Sekyere Central District Face Mounting Challenges: CEO of Nsutaman Rural Bank Calls for Urgent Action

— Farmers in the Sekyere Central District are grappling with a trio of persistent challenges that threaten their livelihoods and the region’s agricultural productivity.

According to Mr. Mark Lasite Konlan, the  CEO of Nsutaman Rural Bank PLC, the district’s farmers are being held back by deplorable road conditions, armed robbery ambushes, and the lack of ready markets for their produce.

“These issues are not just inconveniences—they are barriers to progress,” Mr. Konlan stated this  during the recent Annual General Meeting of the Bank “Our farmers work tirelessly, yet their efforts are undermined by systemic neglect and insecurity”.

The poor state of roads in farming communities such as Gyetiase and Tadiaso,Jaduako,Aframso,Kyekyebon etc has made transportation of goods nearly impossible during rainy seasons.

Farmers often struggle to get their produce to market, resulting in spoilage and financial losses.

Armed robbery ambushes have become a growing concern, especially along the Nsuta Birem road.

These attacks not only endanger lives but also discourage farmers from transporting goods at night or early morning, further limiting market access.

Even when produce reaches urban centers, farmers face another hurdle—lack of structured, reliable markets.

Many are forced to sell at unfavorable prices or watch their goods perish due to delays in sales.

Mr. Konlan emphasized the need for collaborative efforts between local authorities, financial institutions, and national policymakers to address these issues.

“Nsutaman Rural Bank is committed to supporting farmers, but we need infrastructure and security reforms to make our interventions sustainable.”

The call to action resonates with many in the district, as residents have previously staged protests demanding better roads and government attention.
