🚨 Asante North MTTD to Crack Whip on Recalcitrant Road Users
Mampong, Ashanti Region – The Asante North Command of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service has declared a renewed and intensified campaign against indiscipline on the roads within the municipality.
Superintendent Mary Affanyi, the Commanding Officer, revealed that the initiative comes in response to rising concerns over reckless driving, disregard for traffic regulations, and the increasing rate of accidents that threaten lives and property in the area.
He explained that the police will be rolling out a multi-pronged enforcement strategy, including:
– Regular patrols across major highways and township roads.
– Checkpoints to monitor compliance with road safety laws.
– Swift prosecution of offenders to serve as a deterrent.
> “We cannot allow a few recalcitrant drivers to put the lives of law-abiding citizens at risk. The law must take its course,” Superintendent Affanyi stressed, adding that the safety of the public remains the top priority of the Command.
Beyond enforcement, the Command is engaging transport unions, commercial drivers, riders and community leaders in sensitization programs.
These sessions aim to educate both motorists and pedestrians on safe road practices, the importance of adhering to traffic signals, and the dangers of over-speeding and drunk driving.
Local residents have welcomed the move, noting that indiscipline on the roads has long been a menace in Mampong and surrounding communities.
Many expressed hope that the crackdown will reduce accidents and restore order.
The campaign is expected to run throughout the year, with periodic reviews to assess its impact.
Superintendent Affanyi urged the public to cooperate fully with the police, emphasizing that road safety is a shared responsibility.
